Touring NYC’s Innovative K-12 Green Schools
Join us as we continue our series exploring sustainable design in NYC’s schools. Erica Gaswirth of PBDW Architects will be conducting an intimate tour of the LearningSpring School, a school committed to children on the autism spectrum in grades K-8. LearningSpring’s goal is to advance the social, developmental and academic growth of its students through pioneering educational and therapeutic strategies in order to prepare each child to participate in the wider community. In addition to providing cutting edge education for autism spectrum disorder students, the LearningSpring is certified Gold through LEED for Schools with an energy-saving exterior sunscreen, Greenguard-certified furniture, 95% cork flooring, low-VOC materials and low-flow fixtures.

About the speaker:
Erica Gaswirth is an Associate at PBDW Architects specializing in the master planning and architectural design of educational facilities. During her tenure at the firm, Ms. Gaswirth's school projects have ranged from the adaptive re-use of a university library into a student welcome center, a LEED Gold elementary and middle school for special needs students, and a new sustainable aquatic center for an independent school campus.
Ms. Gaswirth is interested in using her projects as a catalyst for new educational programs for the clients with whom she has worked. She enjoys collaborating with teachers to develop presentations and student projects inspired by the new architecture, construction, and sustainable features implemented at each school.
